The Messy Middle: Why Consistency Beats “Talent”

Podcast Information
What is intuition? And why does it feel like it disappears the moment we try to “force” it? In this episode, I chat with Aline Ponce (intuitive practitioner + photographer) to unpack the real relationship between intuition, creative flow, and the ego that’s obsessed with results. They talk about how resonance and dissonance show up in people, why the best work often comes from removing pressure, and how to stay playful while still being professional, especially when clients, timelines, and expectations enter the room.
Key Takeaways from My Conversation with Aline
This conversation surprised me.
I went in thinking we’d talk about creativity. We did.
But what we really talked about was alignment. Ego. Presence. And that strange thing we all feel but struggle to explain.
Energy.
I’m not religious. I lean more agnostic than anything. But I’d be lying if I said there isn’t something happening when you walk into a room and instantly know whether you want to stay.
Some people feel like harmony.
Some feel like a wrong note on a piano.
That’s not logic. That’s intuition.
And I think we ignore it way too often.
Flow Is Not Forced
The biggest realization for me was how closely creativity and intuition are linked.
Flow state isn’t hustle.
It isn’t effort.
It isn’t grinding your teeth until something good happens.
It’s allowance.
The best creative work I’ve ever made didn’t come from pressure. It came from curiosity. From play. From chasing something just because it felt interesting.
The more I chase flow, the less it shows up.
The more I empty the cup, the more it fills.
That’s not mystical. It’s practical.
The Ego Is a Master of Comfort
This one hit hard.
Perfection is often just fear wearing a nice suit.
The ego will tell you:
“You’re not ready.”
“It’s not good enough.”
“Wait until it’s better.”
Or the opposite:
“You’re already good.”
“Don’t risk it.”
“Protect your image.”
Either way, it keeps you still.
And staying still feels safe.
But it doesn’t move you forward.
If we had waited until this podcast was perfect, it wouldn’t exist.
We’re almost 20 episodes in.
It’s not perfect.
That’s the point.
The Messy Middle Matters
Everyone respects episode 200.
Nobody claps for episode 12.
But episode 12 is where the foundation is built.
There’s something beautiful about building in public. About being early. About not having it all figured out.
One day, if this grows into something big, I have a feeling I’ll miss this stage.
So I’m trying to appreciate it now.
Presence Is Becoming Rare
There’s something powerful about two people sitting down and actually being present.
No scrolling.
No checking notifications.
No divided attention.
Just conversation.
Podcasting forces that. And I think that’s why it feels different.
In a world addicted to distraction, presence feels almost radical.
We Are Comparing Ourselves Into Misery
We’re constantly consuming finished products.
Finished careers.
Finished physiques.
Finished success stories.
We rarely see the middle.
And when you only see outcomes, you start believing you’re behind.
That’s dangerous.
Because the truth is, everyone is in a messy middle of something.
Maybe It’s Not Spirituality. Maybe It’s Awareness.
I don’t know if I’d label it spirituality.
But I do believe awareness matters.
Awareness of your ego.
Awareness of your intuition.
Awareness of when you’re chasing something versus allowing it.
If technology keeps evolving but we don’t evolve internally, we’re going to feel more disconnected, not less.
And maybe that’s what we’re seeing right now.
Brokenness Connects Us More Than Perfection
This might be the simplest takeaway.
Perfection isolates.
Vulnerability connects.
When we stop curating every corner of ourselves, real conversations happen.
And that’s what this episode felt like.
Real.
